I’m not sure what I was thinking when I booked our Sonoma African Safari this past Sunday at 9 AM. The unbelievably cold weather we are having was not enough to deter me from seeing giraffes and unusual horned animals at Safari West, an African adventure in the heart of California Wine Country.
We started with a walking tour of the bird sanctuary and the cheetah compound that are part of Safari West’s 400-acre preserve. Imagine a bird who believes he’s human and walks with you on your tour…
We finished with a drive through an exotic African-like savannah setting where we saw giraffes, gazelles, zebras, oryx, antelopes, cape buffalo, and wildebeests. One of the giraffes was intent on getting the last scraps out of the truck that was towing our open-sided safari vehicle.
Imagine a night spent with these unusual creatures. There are comfortable luxury tents imported from Africa with plush beds, private bathrooms, and spacious decks.
