Some of the varietals that grow well in Alexander Valley’s wine region are Sauvignon Blanc with ripe melon and pear notes as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with flavors of deep plum and blackberry.
Rodney Strong Wine Estates is a family-owned wine company that includes Rodney Strong Vineyards and Davis Bynum Winery. Rodney Strong grows and produces wines exclusively from four of Sonoma County’s finest appellations – Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Chalk Hill and Sonoma Coast.
Rodney Strong Vineyards takes pride in their sustainable practices that produces amazing artisan wines made from several single vineyards in Alexander Valley; Alexander’s Crown, Rockaway, and Brothers Ridge.
I was excited to be invited to tour Rockaway Vineyard and taste the wines from all three vineyards recently with Ziggy, the Wine Gal; Robert Larsen, Director of Communications; and Christophe Davis, winemaker extraordinaire.
Christophe Davis explained the differences between the three vineyards and the exceptional qualities found in the wine while we enjoyed samples from the 2010 vintage. Rodney Strong Vineyards also makes other delicious wines from different areas around Sonoma including several tasty Chardonnays, Sauvignon Bland, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel.
We toured the spectacular hills of the Rockaway Vineyard before heading back to the reality of everyday life.
